Faith
Faith is yours to lead
Muslim does not mean one thing. Some clients pray five times a day. Some are returning to faith. Some are leaving it. Hanan meets each of you where you are.
You decide whether faith is part of your sessions, and how much. You can change that at any time, including halfway through a session.
What this looks like
If you want to begin with a dua, we do
If you want to leave faith out, we do
Hanan never assumes how you practice
You can change your mind at any time

Your call
Three ways people use it
Faith in the room
Some clients bring their values, their prayers or a verse that holds them. Hanan listens, asks what it means to you, and works with it.
Faith set to one side
Some clients want a place where it does not come up. That is fine, and Hanan does not read it as a sign of anything.
Faith as a question
Some clients are unsure. Hanan does not push in either direction, and will not tell you what you should believe.
What this is not
What Hanan does not do
Give religious rulings
She is a counselor, not an imam or a scholar. If a question needs a religious answer, she can help you find someone to ask.
Assume your family
She does not assume how your family practices, who decides what in your home, or what you want.
Treat faith as the problem
Nor does she treat it as the answer. It is part of your life, and you say how large a part.
Prayer-time scheduling
Planning around prayer
Tell us when you pray
When you write, say which prayers you keep. Hanan books your session around them.
Maghrib in winter
In Michigan, maghrib can fall before 5:30 p.m. in the winter months. Late-afternoon appointments are set with that in mind.
Fridays and Ramadan
The office pauses at midday on Fridays. In Ramadan, earlier evening hours are available.
A place to pray
A quiet room in the office is yours before or after a session. A mat is there, and the direction is marked.
Say what would help
Write to Hanan and say what would help. You do not need to explain why.
